When my life group decided to go Christmas caroling this year, I have to confess I was not exactly jumping up and down. While my fellow life groupers were excited, I was the skeptic. I worried that we might be more of a discouragement than an encouragement. Again, this was all my projection. The rest of the group can hold a tune. I was just scared I would be the one off key. But despite my sour attitude, caroling plans were made and the Evite was sent out.
We actually had a pretty good turn out…and I must say, we weren’t too bad. Church friends, friends of friends, and neighbors joined us to bless the neighborhood where our life group meets. The best parts of the evening were when neighbors came out and their faces beamed of absolute joy. People were shocked. They hadn’t seen carolers in a long, long time. One family opened up their home to us. Some people even requested songs. And the most popular song? O Holy Night! (Good thing that was in our songbook!)
I am now a firm believer in Christmas caroling. Go ahead, try it out. It’s good for the body. It’s good for the soul.
